Well it’s been a few months now since we had two out of our four pigs culled. The two that were kept, the female Berkshire and the male English Black, have become our breeding pair. We plan to breed from them around once a year to start with, their progeny being for meat purposes, and going from there.
As these two will never be for meat, they have been named. What did we name them? Well Miss Piggy and Kermit of course!
They are both old enough now to reproduce so watch this space!
As you can see from the photos, the land in and around their paddock is quite dry and barren. These photos were taken a few months ago and we hadn’t had any rain in a long time. Thankfully we have had rain since and it’s not looking so desolate. The pasture wasn’t very luscious in the first place anyway – the pigs should improve it greatly over time! Also as you can imagine, they have both grown a fair bit since these photos were taken – time to take some more i think!
